We teach not in the way philosophy is taught, but in the way that the Spirit teaches us: we teach spiritual things spiritually.
— St. Bernard of Clairvaux

Did you know that Song of Songs is the most commented-on Book of the Bible? Almost every Church Father and every saint had something to say about at least some part of that Scripture. Why? Because it is every person’s journey, as John Paul II mentioned in 1980:

Your personal journey must be like an original new edition of the famous poem in the Song of Songs.”

In this beautiful drama of God’s love reaching to human heart, you will be able to see yourself as the Beloved who needs to find the pearl that will satisfy your heart. In each of our weekly sessions, we discover a spiritual sense of each rich verse, finding ourselves in the midst of an ongoing journey, opening the eyes of our hearts to a deeper connection with Jesus and His way of loving us. As Bernard of Clairvaux describes:

“Only the touch of the Spirit can inspire a song like this, and only personal experience can unfold its meaning. Let those who are versed in the mystery revel in it; let all others burn with desire rather to attain to this experience than merely to learn about it.

For it is a melody that resound abroad by the very music of the heart, not a trilling on the lips but an inward pulsing of delight, a harmony not of voices but of wills, it is a tune you will not hear in the streets, these notes do not sound where crowds assemble; only the singer hears it and the one to whom he sings - the lover and the beloved. It is preeminently a marriage song telling of chaste souls in loving embrace, of their wills in sweet accord, of the mutual exchange of the heart's affection”.

The journey to Jesus’ heart continues and it leads through the nights with shadows, obstacles, and the unknown. At the end of the pilgrimage, there is a garden of rest. To get there you must search where life can be found and wait for the arrival of the Bridegroom from the wilderness.

The experiential wisdom of Gregory of Nyssa, Teresa of Avila, Bernard of Clairvaux, and John of the Cross will help us go prayerfully through the Song of Songs while learning about vocal and mental prayer (meditation, contemplation).

Teaching with Q&A and prayer sessions online, including discussions on personal prayer experiences, prophetic activations, weekly prayer, and meditation assignments.
