Tenebrae - The service of shadows

Stay with Me

Remain here with Me

Watch and Pray

Join us next Friday at St. Philips in Pasadena, 7:00-9:00pm to pray, remain with Him, adore the cross, and enter into the darkness of Christ crucified.

We will be inside the church, please wear masks inside and social distance, remaining in groups of families.

Tenebrae (Lat. darkness) is an ancient Holy Week service of shadows where we mournfully chant and read the Liturgy of the Hours, other Scriptures with commentaries while distinguish each candle’s light until darkness surrounds the sanctuary.

What will happen? You will be enveloped in sounds and visuals that will take you to the Passion, Death and Silence of Christ. Additionally to what is described above, we will sing Taize songs, expend Liturgy of the Hours by meditative singing Lectio Divina based on the Psalms. Our focus is intercessory prayer for various intentions since Good Friday is the day when the whole Church intercedes continually for the world to receive the salvation of Christ.

Registration:

Description:

Pisanki are a tradition of decorating beautiful eggs that date back to the 10th century in Slavic regions in Europe. They have different motifs and colors on the eggs which have deep, symbolic meaning.

In this class, we will learn the process of how to create pisanki, the symbolism and meaning behind them, as well as learn how to draw on the eggs with melted beeswax and then dip the eggs into dyes to create the final pisanka.

The first half of the class Teah Major will be showing the step-by-step process of how to create a specific design on a pisanka, which the whole class will take part in. The second half of the class, everyone will get to pick their own design and create their own, unique pisanka.

Supplies:

All the tools, dyes, and printing materials will be provided except the eggs, which will need to be blown out beforehand and brought to the class. Each person will receive one black beeswax, 1 medium kistka tool, a tealight candle, and a clear stand that they will be able to display their pisanka to take home with them.

All supplies are purchased from the Ukranian Gift Shop. (https://www.ukrainiangiftshop.com/)

1. At least 3 blown out, dried eggs per a person
